EuroAirport’s first regular transatlantic cargo flight operated by Air Canada Cargo, Canada's flag carrier

Air Canada Cargo landed at EuroAirport on 14 April 2021, inaugurating the new transatlantic cargo connection between Toronto and Basel-Mulhouse

In keeping with tradition, the Airport Fire Brigade greeted the Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner chartered by Air Canada Cargo with a water salute when it landed at EuroAirport. It was the first regular transatlantic cargo flight at EuroAirport since Swissair and Swissair Cargo ceased operations in the early 2000s.

Starting 14 April 2021, Air Canada Cargo will connect Basel-Mulhouse Airport to Toronto, the largest Canadian airport, twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays, with an arrival at 12.55 and a departure at 20:00 hours. The new cargo route will be flown by the Boeing Dreamliner, a next generation aircraft renowned for its fuel efficiency and low noise emissions. A standard passenger version of the aircraft is used for the EuroAirport flights, with the cargo hold used for transporting freight.

The new cargo line will facilitate the transport of goods imported and exported between North and Latin America and the tri-national region around the Airport. It will also contribute to the economic development of the neighbouring French, German, and Swiss territory, and enhance EuroAirport’s “freight” activities, its third strategic business area alongside “passengers” and “industry”.
