EuroAirport looks back on the summer vacation period 2025

Texte formaté

Last weekend, summer vacation came to an end in the last regions around EuroAirport. Due to its trinational catchment area, the Airport’s summer vacation period is prolonged by several weeks each year. This summer, operations proved to be intense again: numerous thunderstorms and constraints related to European air traffic control providers temporarily lead to delays. Overall, however, operations ran smoothly and orderly.

High demand and new passenger records

The summer vacation period is the busiest time of year at EuroAirport. Destinations in the Mediterranean region and European cities were once again popular this year.

During the summer vacation period 2025, more than 2.4 million passengers flew to and out of EuroAirport - a new record that corresponds to around +9% compared to the previous year. August also saw record numbers, with over 1.01 million travellers, and on August 8, 36 802 passengers travelled via the Airport, more than ever before in a single day. Despite this exceptionally high passenger volume, operations ran smoothly.

In spite of the tense situation in air traffic control across Europe and temporary capacity shortages among air traffic controllers, airport operations at EuroAirport remained largely stable. Waiting times at security and border control remained moderate. Delays were more significant for arriving flights than for departures, reflecting the ground crews’ efficient work.

Measures prove effective once again

The measures introduced in 2024 - slot coordination with fixed time slots for take-offs and landings as well as the ECRA procedure for real-time data exchange with Eurocontrol - have once again proven their worth. They contributed to stabilising traffic flows and improving operational quality for passengers.

Tobias Market, Managing Director of EuroAirport: “The summer vacation period is always a particularly intense time for EuroAirport and our partners.” Thanks to the outstanding cooperation of all teams, we were able to ensure stable operations this summer despite capacity shortages across Europe. I would like to express my special thanks to all employees who worked hard to ensure that our passengers had the most pleasant travel experience possible.”
