Passing through the security checks
The security staff carry out checks for your safety with respect for your person.
We recommend that you refer to the page "Check-in", indicating when you should be at the security checks prior to take-off, in order to give you sufficient time to pass through the checkpoints and allow you to reach your departure gate in good time.
Make certain that your hand luggage contains no objects forbidden in cabin luggage.
Show your boarding pass to the security staff.
Put your hand luggage on the conveyor belt of the X-ray machine. Remove the plastic bag containing liquids, laptop computers, cameras and any other large electrical appliance and place them in the trays.
Remove your jacket or coat, your hat, scarf, etc. and empty your pockets (keys, mobile phone, change, etc.). Place them in a tray. You may be asked to remove your belt and/or your shoes.
You may undergo further checks: body search (this will be carried out by a person of the same sex as yourself)...
...or your hand baggage may be searched.
After the security check, please don’t forget to recover all your personal effects from the conveyor belt of the X-ray machine and proceed to the departure hall at your convenience.
Objects forbidden in cabin luggage
For security reasons, certains objects are forbidden in cabin luggage, namely (depending on the airline, other objects can be forbidden as well; please check with your airline):
➝ Revolvers, firearms and weapons
➝ Copies and imitations of weapons
➝ Munition
➝ Knives and sharp instruments
➝ Blunt instruments
➝ Neutralizing or incapacitating substances
➝ Objects that can be used as weapons
➝ Explosive and inflammable substances
➝ Storm lighters ("blue flame lighter")
➝ Chemical and toxic substances
➝ Liquids, pastes, gels and aerosols *
We advise you to check in your baggage and personal items in the hold whenever possible. Only items that are absolutely necessary for the journey should be carried in hand luggage.
Prohibited objects detected during security checks must be handed in on site. Small items can be kept safely in an envelope (max. 210 x 297 mm) on request. Upon your return, you can collect these items daily from 5:30 a.m. to midnight at the airport information desk (Level 2, Arrivals) for a handling fee.

Surcharge (for each additional startet 4-week-period): € 5.00 / CHF 5.00
Maximum storage duration: 12 weeks
Items that do not fit in the envelope or for which this service is not used will be destroyed.
Please check with your airline in advance of your departure for the applicable regulations regarding the number, size and weight of permitted hand luggage, as these may vary depending on the airline.
Liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols
Security measures for liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols in hand luggage are applied at all European airports.
Is considered as a paste, any product corresponding to a mixture or material of a soft or malleable consistency.
Ex.: foie gras, röstis, soft cheese like munster, fondue preparation, etc.
You are allowed to carry only small quantities of these products in your hand luggage under the following conditions:
- the products must be stored in containers, each with a maximum capacity of 100 ml or 100 g
- the containers must be placed in one closed, transparent plastic bag of the freezer bag type with a maximum capacity of one litre (format 20 x 20 cm)
This bag is to be presented separately from the hand baggage during the security checks.
Recommendation: Pack your liquid products in your hold baggage.
Exemptions:
- Food for babies or young children needed during the flight
- Liquid medicines needed during the flight

Shopping in the departure hall
All articles purchased after the security check (in the duty-free area or the departure hall) are allowed on board without restriction.
Passengers wishing to take with them on board liquids, gels, pastes, creams and aerosols of more than 100 ml or 100 g must purchase them after the security check at the shops in the departure hall. In certain cases, the sales staff will place their purchases in sealed transparent plastic bags, accompanied by a dated purchase receipt.
Passengers changing planes at an airport in the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland or Norway may take their sealed, unopened bags into the cabin on the connecting flight.
Passengers changing planes at an airport in another country are requested to consult their airline about this.
Provisional Swiss Passport (Emergency Passport)
Do you need to travel on short notice or find yourself in an emergency situation?
You can apply for a provisional Swiss passport, also commonly referred to as an emergency passport.

Required documents
At least one of the following documents must be provided:
- An expired Swiss passport, a Swiss identity card, or another official photo ID
- A certificate of registration (proof that your certificate of origin is deposited with your municipality)
In case of loss of your ID, a valid police loss report issued by a Swiss police authority is mandatory.
