Snow removal and de-icing service
Every winter, the Airport’s teams work around the clock in order to ensure safe and smooth flight operations - regardless of meteorological conditions. Learn more about how Basel-Mulhouse Airport remains in operation due to high-performance snow removal and de-icing service.
Precise preparations for snow removal and de-icing
Winter season: October 15 to April 1
Involved partners: Swissport, Météo France, DGAC, airlines and all airport platform players
Winter service schedule: The “Plan Neige” regulates the organisation and operational procedures in the event of snow falls. It is available upon request via the [contact form].
Impressive figures
In order to keep the Airport accessible, the teams remove snow from:
- 350 000 m² of runway surfaces
- 290 000 m² of taxiway surfaces
- 260 000 m² of aircraft parking position sufaces.
This corresponds to a total of more than 220 soccer fields that must be cleared of snow quickly and safely.
Objective: To ensure safe and trouble-free airport operations, even during difficult and extreme meteorological conditions.
State-of-the-art technical resources and well-trained personnel
The Airport owns a specialised vehicle fleet. All equipment is operated by experienced teams who are on call around the clock and ready to respond immediately.
These operations are initiated based on continuous weather monitoring in close cooperation with Météo France.
Critical areas such as runways as well as the main taxiways are always given priority, followed by aircraft parking positions and service roads.
