EuroAirport mid-2011 figures

29% more passengers and 7% more freight

With 2.3 million passengers, traffic figures for the first half-year of 2011 show 29% growth when compared with the previous year. Scheduled flights have increased by 33% and non-commercial traffic by 14%. At 54,698 tonnes, freight traffic has risen 7% compared to the previous year.

EuroAirport Management is pleased with this positive development which is mainly due to economic recovery and the arrival of three newly based aircraft at the airport (an airberlin plane and two easyJet planes) during 2010. In the second half of 2011, EuroAirport expects these exceptional growth levels to subside and forecasts reaching the 4.8 million passenger mark at the end of the year (+17%).

Passenger traffic at EuroAirport reached 2,303,385 passengers in the first half-year of 2011, corresponding to a 29% increase on the previous year. Of these passengers, 95% (or 2,194,963) used scheduled flights, which grew by 33% compared to the previous year. Charter traffic went down by 24%, registering 102,441 passengers. This drop can be attributed to the fact that holiday destinations are increasingly serviced by scheduled flights.

With 54,698 tonnes, air freight traffic in the first half-year increased by 7% compared to the previous year. Since the start of the year, the express freight segment has also developed positively (+9%). General cargo, on the other hand, has decreased by 4%, recording a total of 5,206 tonnes. The decrease in general cargo activity results from a shortened runway during restoration works which were carried out between 3 May and 9 July 2011.

The number of flight movements for the first half-year was 16% higher than that of the previous year, totalling 42,854 take-offs and landings.
