EuroAirport goes for IATA Pharma certification (CEIV Pharma)

Following Good Distribution Practices (GDP) certification in November 2015, EuroAirport has decided to implement the IATA CEIV Pharma certification program* in cooperation with other stakeholders of the airfreight industry operating at the airport site. This certification will help reinforce EuroAirport’s position as one of the major airports handling pharmaceutical shipments in Europe.

“Since Basel has the world’s highest density of successful life science companies, IATA welcomes the decision of EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse Freiburg to adopt IATA’s global certification program CEIV Pharma as the main standard for transporting pharmaceuticals,” comments Glyn Hughes, IATA Global Head of Cargo. “IATA has created CEIV Pharma to help airlines, handlers and forwarders to be compliant with international regulations and to create one global standard for transporting pharmaceuticals.”

“Our decision shows our long-term commitment to the Life Science industry”, says Gian Carlo Alessi, Head of Cargo Department at EuroAirport. “Thanks to our new 21’000m2 state-of-the-art Cargo Terminal which is completely temperature controlled and other advantages like the possibility of real-time temperature monitoring and fast and efficient processes, we are able to answer the requirements of the Life Science Industry.”

In addition to EuroAirport, which will be one of the first Airport Authorities worldwide to be certified, the following companies will be participating in the certification program: Swissport, Fiege, Swiss World Cargo, WFS (Worldwide Flight Services) and Fischer Road Cargo.

The certification process will start in June 2016 with most of the participating companies acquiring individual certification by the end of the year. Based on a community approach, the program participants will work closely together to fine tune and align stakeholder interfaces with the joint objective of ensuring the delivery of high quality standards and services at Basel-Mulhouse Airport.
